Here are some notes about using Noteflight from the lovely director of music! Welcome to Noteflight! What is Noteflight?: • It’s free shareware that works on PCs or Macs, but you need to have an Internet connection to use it. • Amy-Lyn is posting links to all numbers recorded on our LSH website. Visit early, visit often! • When you click on a link, you will see the full vocal score on the Noteflight website. You can read notes AND lyrics by following the vertical red line that moves along when you click “play” (black triangle, top left corner -- see image below). • If you don’t currently read music, you may find this is a good way to get started! • If you learn best by listening, rather than reading, let me know. Once you have memorized your lyrics, these tracks can be downloaded as WAV files that you can then listen to on iTunes or any other mp3 reading device. Navigating around your Noteflight score:
• To have the score appear larger while you are working on your computer, click on the magnifying glass, 2nd icon to the right of the red “view” label, and “Zoom to fit” (see image above). The music will fill the full width of your screen. You’ll need to click the icon again to get it to disappear. • Experiment with "Page view", "Strip" or "Flow" (the icon to the left of Zoom) to find the setting you prefer. o “Page view” shows, logically enough, the music in a format you could print, if you wish. Its drawback is a lot of jumping from line to line, and you may lose track of your part. o "Strip" shows one continuous system, so your eyes don't need to continuously jump down a system. o "Flow" combines "Strip" and "Page view": you see 6 to 8 measures stretched out across your screen, rather than just 3 or 4 measures, but you still need to skip down to the next system. • Most vocal parts of the song are recorded, (all 4 for The Girls), and your part is at “ff” level (fortissimo = very loud), while the others are “pp” (pianissimo = very quiet). If you want to hear a version with all voices at equal volume and try singing your part, click on the “all parts” version |
